Spent the afternoon on Sunday shooting for the Toni & Guy salon in Portland. The shots are to be submitted to the Toni & Guy Photographic Awards. I had the pleasure to work with two great stylists in Ceanna and Annette as well as three beautiful models; Amanda, Alix, and Anna. I also had Daven there to master the art of diffusion and reflector holding for me. The location worked out great and despite the weather being a bit schizophrenic, clear skies and sunlight showed up enough to get the shots we needed. Overall it was an awesome shoot and I can’t wait to share the final images once they’ve been selected. Until then, here are a couple behind the scenes shots.

New Toy | Fujifilm Instax Mini

Sometimes I miss shooting film. Many times I’ve been very close to buying an old film camera or a plastic holga just to mess around with, but since I have very limited access to a darkroom I just haven’t pulled the trigger. When you shoot digital you get that instant gratification that can be really nice, but there is something exciting about shooting a roll of film and taking it through the full developmental process and getting surprised by your images (good or bad). For now I have found something to fill this void, which has a the best of both worlds: the Fujifilm Instax Mini 7s. I get the same satisfaction of seeing my images quickly, but the couple minutes of watching the image slowly develop on the instant print creates the same excitement I use to get watching my film print start to emerge in the developer.

The film itself is sort of expensive and the quality is fairly poor, but that’s not the point anyway. Its a fun little toy and so far I’m loving it.

Cannon Beach

I haven’t been to good about keeping an up-to-date blog, but I’ll do some quick catching up and maybe I can stick with it this year.

Took a quick weekend trip to my family’s house in Cannon Beach in March to do some location scouting and some shooting. For a weekend it was pretty empty, so I was able to get some cool wide-angle shots without having to worry about getting any innocent bystanders involved.

Model Motorcade | Gorge

A few weeks back I took part in “Model Motorcade”, which consisted of 4 photographers and six models in an all day shoot along the Columbia River Gorge. We shot at some really cool locations and I was able to get a few good shots. I’ve been really busy, so I’m slow to get a lot of the shots online, but here are a few. Danielle is a new model with Ryan Artists Modeling Agency in Portland. We got together to do some casual shots and a few bikini shots, as requested by her agency. The shoot started off a little bizarre to say the least. Within 5 minutes of shooting a swarm of wasps came out of nowhere (the ground maybe?) and starting stinging me and Danielle. Somehow my assistant, Craig, managed to completely avoid any stings. I ran leaving my gear behind and ended up with about 20+ stings all over my body and head, luckily none on the face though. I eventually snuck back and grabbed my gear without further attacks. Obviously we had no choice but to move on to location #2 and from then on things went very well. Here are some shots:

Stephanie was the first model that I ever shot while assisting Ben Pigao, back in June. I recently had the opportunity to schedule my own shoot with her in Forest Grove, Oregon. It was a long shoot with a lot of different outfits, but mostly stuck to a nerdy-fashion theme. Check out some shots here. Click on them to get to my flickr for more shots.
